Futures Academy Education Programmes
The Futures Academy, in partnership with Gryphon Hockey, has delivered coach, umpire and management education programmes for over 20 years, mentoring and qualifying over 1000 individuals.
Coaching Programmes
Futures Academy run a series of coach education programmes throughout the year. As many participants attend from outside the UK, Futures Academy has chosen to deliver FIH (International Hockey Federation) Academy courses.
FIH Hockey Academy Coaching Level 1
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? A 5 day intensive introductory coach education course for coaches, teachers, parents & volunteers. This course is suitable for those who coach hockey sessions to children or adults in clubs, schools or the community as part of a programme overseen by a qualified coach. WHAT IS THE PROGRAMME? The 5 day course will consist of mainly pitch based practical sessions focusing on developing individual hockey technical/tactical and coaching competencies. Candidates will be part of Team Futures for the week and will have the opportunity to deliver a number of mentored sessions to players on camp. The course is based on the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Hockey Academy Coaching Level 1 Programme, and will be delivered by UKCC/FIH Coach Educators. The aim is to develop coaches within a fun, relaxed and open learning environment. Candidates will be challenged to adopt a player centred and interactive approach to delivery. WHAT WILL IT ENABLE ME TO COACH? On completion of the Level 1 Coaching Course, candidates will receive a certificate of attendance and an individual development plan. The FIH Hockey Academy programmes do not provide a formal license/qualification to coach (this is a national association role) but it will provide a good base hockey coaching knowledge, understanding and practice. The programme is designed to encourage coaching in context by developing exercises & drills that encourage player decision making in the game environment, as well as a good understanding of skill development. WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED? To attend this course you must be at least 16 years of age. You do not require any prior knowledge of hockey or coaching. IS THERE AN ASSESSMENT? All candidates will be given the opportunity to deliver a number of sessions individually and in groups, and will receive formal and informal feedback through out the course. There is no formal assessment as the course is an award not a qualification. |

HOW DO I BOOK? Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old before commencing the course. Candidates will be required to complete an online learning module prior to attending the course. This is not an assessed module. Whilst not mandatory, it is recommended that candidates complete the England Hockey online Safeguarding Course and the online Rules test prior to attending the course. Day and Residential attendance options are available. |
